São José waterfall, Lumiar: a 12 metre drop and a pool
It is the tallest of the easy-access falls in Lumiar: more than 12 metres, a few steps from the car park. Before it there is a leisure area with a pool and a bar.

It is private land charging a fee for upkeep. In high summer, January and February, it often opens on Fridays too. There are snacks, plus pools for adults and children. Pets are allowed on a leash, with owners cleaning up after them.
The Viciada em Viajar blogger described the leisure area as a bit of a crowd scene, with plastic chairs and little sun because of the trees. If you want quiet, go early.
Getting there
It is 2 km past Poço Belo towards Boa Esperança and about 6 km from the centre. Just above is Indiana Jones. For a bed nearby, the Parador Lumiar is the closest hotel we reviewed. The other pools are in Lumiar waterfalls.
